Connecting Local Production & Global Industry

Shea butter has a centuries-long tradition in West Africa. British explorer Mungo Park already described it in the 18th century as an important trade commodity. Today, structural challenges such as limited infrastructure, restricted access to financing, and complex supply chain requirements limit the ability of West African companies to fully realize the potential of this valuable raw material.

RootAfric bridges this gap by fostering direct partnerships with producers, integrating production oversight, and ensuring traceable, reliable supply at industrial volumes for global buyers.

Our Approach:

  • Direct Regional Partnerships: Collaboration with established producers like women-led cooperatives secures deep integration in local supply systems and promotes local value creation.
  • Integrated Production Oversight: Early involvement across all production stages ensures traceability, product consistency, and adherence to international industrial standards.
  • Scalable Industrial Supply: Its regional network allows RootAfric to respond reliably to large-volume industrial orders while maintaining quality and flexibility.
  • Resilient Local Systems: Strengthening local processing capabilities supports stable incomes, safe working conditions, and long-term capacity building in West Africa.

Adding Value – Creating Partnerships

Large volumes of shea nuts are exported from West Africa in raw form, limiting the potential for local value creation. RootAfric addresses this by partnering directly with trusted producers, integrating on-site processing, and providing operational support and targeted early-stage investment.

This approach retains more value locally, strengthens production planning, and enables consistent, traceable supply for global industrial buyers.
